Abstract

soetes pantii, an aquaic lycopod, whose origin is undertstood to be by natural hybridization in between I. Coromandelina and I. Sampathkumarini, is the only living plant wherein heterospory is known to occur in one and the same sporangium. On the basis of Southern blot hybridisation and DNA methylation studies this paper suggests possibility of abrupt hypomethylation of DNA assisted genomic imprinting in this Quillwort.

Keywords: Genomic imprinting in Isoetes, Abrupt DNA methylation, Origin of heterospory, Evolutionary strategies.
