Abstract

Six thermophilic fungi isolated from paddy straw compost were screened for xylanolytic activity. Sporotrichum thermophile,  and Acrémonium alabamensis exhibited more xylanolytic activity in comparison with others.  The xylanase production by these two fungi were more in lignocellulose complex of paddy straw.  The enzyme was produced only in xylose or xylose-containing hermicelluloses indicating its inducible nature.
