Abstract

Dysgenic traits including non-reciprocal fertility, differential hybrid fertility, transmission-ratio distortion, increased recombination, and chromosomal aberrations were recorded in interspecific hybrids of the Ae. (Stegomyiascutellaris subgroup.  Most of these genetic events could be attributed due to chromosmal breakages,  and interaction between chromosome and cytoplasm. These genetic characteristics were considered to be the most potent factors in evolution and speciation in this species subgroup.

Keywords: Non-reciprocal fertility, differential fertility, transmission-ratio distortion, recombination, chromosomal breakages
