Abstract

Physiotoxicity of paper mill effluents on Oryza sativa L. var. IR 36 was studied.  The effluent significantly inhibited germination, root and shoot growth and also affected chlorophyll content,  sugar, protein,  aminoacids and nucleic acids in different degrees.  The level of biochemical characteristics and the effluent treatment was negatively correlated and was highly significant (P ≤ 0.001).  None of the effluent concentration tried favoured the crop growth.
