Abstract

Nitrogen fractions such as total, soluble, insoluble nitrogen and crude protein were estimated and compared in eleven aquatic growth forms. Among these different growth forms, in relation to the different habit, no significant differences were noted in nitrogen fractions other than Hydrilla verticillata. Though Ottelia alismoides showed higher total nitrogen content, the other two nitrogen fractions such as alcohol soluble, insoluble nitrogen and crude protein were relatively high in H. verticillata.

Keywords: Nitrogen fractions, free floating, submerged, emergent forms
