Abstract

The antimicrobial activity of tributyltin (TBT) and triphenyltin (TPT) chloride on Escherichia coli K-12 was investigated. The growth kinetic observation revealed that TBT have high antimicrobial activity in comparison to TPT. The colony forming ability of wild type strain was reduced to five times, whereas, TBT resistant mutant grew normally at similar concentration of TBT. TBT-resistant mutant showed cross resistance to TPT. In comparison to agar-medium, the toxicity of TBT and TPT was reduced when cells were grown in liquid medium.
