Abstract

Although Agaricus bisporus  is the most extensively cultivated mushroom in the World modern approach to breed this economically important fungus have been largely ignored. In part this is due to the organism itself which has a recalcitrant reproductive cycle and few genetic markers. Thus we are utilizing plymerase chain reaction technology (PCR) for use in developing a set of random markers known as RAPDs (random amplified polymorphic DNA). Random DNA segment amplified using simple primer appear to be an effective and highly sensitive way of identifying parents (white strains and brown strains), their single spores isolates and hybrid (U-3) in the germplasm of white button mushroom.
