Abstract

Inked palmar dermatoglyphics of 120 male diabetic patients were compared with 150 normal males to know the possible association of dermatoglyphic features to diabetes mellitus.  Data on patients were collected during 1979-80 from Government - Rajendra Hospital and Central Research Institute of Ayurveda, Patiala. Patients have  shown significant differences from controls pertaining to an aberrant manifestation of C-line, homolateral differences (left and right) in Plato's modal type of line C. Occurrence of patterns in hypothenar area and left homolaterals in the IVth inter- digital area, biological concordance- discordance in lines D, C, B, A endings,  while there is greater incidence of double radial base crease in patient series, angle atd and axial triradii are located higher in patients.  However, no statistically significant  differences are observed in main line index, and angle and palmar flexion creases.
