Abstract
Among the four species studied P. triflorum Roxb., P. maritimum Linn. and P. tortuosum Herb. are diploids and P. longiflorum Roxb. is a polyploid. In P. triflorum Roxb., P. tortuosum Herb. and P. longiflorum Roxb. new records of chromosome number and karyotype analysis, as far as we are aware, have been made for the first time. Both aneuploidy and euploidy together with structural alterations of chromosomes play important role in speciation.
