Abstract

Horizontal starch gel electrophoretic analysis of single individuals from naturally caught as well as laboratory strains of fifteen drosophilids revealed very low amount of allelic variability and heterozygosity at a signle locus coding α-glycerophosphate dehydrogenase (α-GPDH). The most common α-GPDH allozymes are unique in D. immigransD. buscki and Zaprionus species. The observed low level of genic variation at α-GPDH locus has been discussed.

Keywords: Isozyme polymorphism, α-GPDH allozymes, allelic frequencies, heterozy-gosity, drosophilids
