Abstract

This work was set out to find out the relationship between employee welfare and organizational effectiveness in the oil and gas firms in Bonny Island, Rivers State of Nigeria. The study considered three factors of employee welfare--Vacation policy, insurance policy, and work place safety as they relate to organizational effectiveness in the firms under review. Using the survey research design, questionnaires were administered to a sample size of 312 employees, drawn from a population of 1,425 staff of the three oil and gas firms in Bonny Island. The Pearson Product Moment Correlation Coefficient was used to test the relationship of the variables under employee welfare and organizational effectiveness. The study found that all the independent variables had a direct and significant relationship with the dependent variable. The study therefore concluded that vacation policy, insurance policy and work place policy each has a direct significant relationship with organizational effectiveness and a favorable policy in each of these areas and implementation of such policy is vital for organizational effectiveness. The study recommended that employee           welfare should be prioritized by firms in the oil and gas sector for effectiveness and sustainable economy.
