Abstract

This research attempts to analyze a poster created by the "Flavors Hook Kids organization" anti-tobacco group. The analysis purpose is to look at the language and paralinguistic elements this poster uses to voice worries about flavored e-cigarettes and kids' safety. The qualitative technique, which applies Firth's model for the investigation of the layers of meaning in advertisements, was used in the critical assessment of the poster. In order to demonstrate how all of these elements work together to convey the message and create the organization's ideology, the inquiry will connect the rhetorical techniques used in the advertisement with Peirce's triadic model of the sign.

Keywords: Semiosis, vapes, linguistic and textual analysis, kids, firth’s levels of meaning, peirce triadic model
