The review paper has covered the prominent studies conducted into the problems and prospects of food processing industry over the last few years. The definition and the relevance of the industry are explored in the paper. For this purpose, the authors attempted to know the present status of employment in the industry under productivity, skill, and infrastructure related factors. The sources and feasibility of capital investment are also considered, encompassing other related dimensions such as profitability, productivity growth, cash flow statements, etc. Problems related to the procurement of raw materials and the marketing of processed food are also being deliberated upon. The importance of the industry is underscored in developing regional infrastructure through forward and backward linkages. In conclusion, some research gaps are identified and further industrial aspects are suggested that could enhance our knowledge.
