Dr. hab. Mariusz Cycoń is currently working as Assistant Professor in the Department of Microbiology and Virology affiliated to School of Pharmacy with the Division of Laboratory Medicine at the Medical University of Silesia, Poland. He acquired his PhD hab. in Biological Sciences - Environmental Microbiology at the University of Silesia, Poland in February 2014, Ph.D. in Medical Sciences - Medical Biology at the Medical University of Silesia, Poland in December 2006 and MSc in Biology - Biotechnology of Plants and Microorganisms at the University of Silesia, Poland in July 2006. Dr hab. Cycoń has experience in different areas of modern environmental microbiology and biotechnology, to name a few: degradation of the organic compounds, bioremediation processes, microbial community structure of contaminated soils, optimization of degradation processes of chemicals, etc. He has so far published more than 30 research articles in national and international peer-reviewed journals (e.g. Frontiers in Microbiology, Chemosphere, Applied Soil Ecology, Journal of Environmental Management, International Biodeterioration & Biodegradation, Journal of Environmental Sciences, Ecotoxicology). Dr hab. Cycoń is a member of the editorial board of 21 journals (e.g. Applied Soil Ecology, Frontiers in Microbiology, Frontiers in Environmental Microbiology). He has so far reviewed more than 400 articles for 81 high-rated journals (e.g. Journal of Hazardous Materials, Bioresource Technology, Chemosphere, PLoS ONE, Journal of Environmental Management, Applied Microbiology and Biotechnology, Environmental Science and Pollution Research, Applied Soil Ecology, Biodegradation, Ecotoxicology).
Research Interests: environmental microbiology; environmental biotechnology; microbial activity, diversity and community structure of soils contaminated with organic pollutants (pesticides, antibiotics, NSAIDs); microbial degradation of organic pollutants; bioremediation of contaminated soils; antibiotic-resistant microorganisms.
