The work adopted a survey research design using a modified standardized structured questionnaire to elicit data. The population was obtained from selected construction companies during the field survey. A systematic sampling technique was adopted in selecting four (4) construction companies from the region. Taro Yamane and Bowley's Proportional Allocation Formulae were used to determine the sample size and the number of units allocated to each construction company respectively. Spearman Rank Correlation was used to test the formulated hypothesis on the platform of Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) Version 21.0. A positive significant relationship between organizational paranoia and employee performance in construction companies in South-East, Nigeria was established. Organizations should have established norms and values in that would leave all stakeholders satisfied to mitigate fear, anxiety, suspicion, and distrust. Tue, 02 Jan 2024 00:00:00 +0000 Relationship between Competency Mapping and Employees’ Performance at Nigerian Bottling Company Plc, Imo State Plant <p>The study focused on competency mapping and employee performance in Nigeria Bottling Company Plc. (NBC), Imo State Plant. The specific objectives of the study were to: ascertain the effect of manpower planning on employees’ task performance and evaluate the effect of work placement on employees’ task performance in NBC. The study adopted survey research design, the target population of the study consisted of all the employees. Primary and secondary sources of data were used. Multiple Regression analysis were used to analyze the study objectives. Findings revealed that at 1% level (Sig &lt; .01) of significance, manpower planning and work placement have a significant effect on employees’ task and contextual performance. The study concluded that competency mapping have a positive and significant effects on employees’ performance. The study recommended that the management of NBC need to uphold their manpower planning programmes especially; embarking on workforce analysis, workload analysis and induction of new recruits. Management need to incorporate employees’ growth into their strategic plans, cultivate talents to align with organisational mission and vision. Thu, 11 Jan 2024 00:00:00 +0000 Influence of Communication on Success of Projects in Construction Companies in Borama District, Somaliland <p>The study investigated the influence of communication on project success in construction companies in Borama District, Somaliland.&nbsp; Communication is defined as the process of passing information, and understanding from one person to another. In this study communication was conceptualized as information managements, interpersonal communication and team diversity. Project success is meaningful when meeting project objectives and the goal within its planned completion of time, cost and quality. If the Project communication was poor there would be lack of communication channels and policy in the construction companies, which causes the problem. Project success in many local construction companies has been a big problem in many places across the global. Success of local project in construction companies is poor is about 20% finishing of the projects with in specified time is poor and is about 9%. The quality of the project is about 30%. Which is poor. The objectives of the study were to determine the influence of information management, the influence of interpersonal communication skills, and the influence of project team diversity on project success. Based on the theory of communication, the study used a cross sectional survey on 60 project managers and other staffs of local construction companies in Borama district. The data was collected using questionnaire and analyzed using descriptive statistics, and multiple regression. The study found that project information managements have no a significance effect on project success of construction companies in Borama. The findings show &nbsp;<em>&nbsp;</em>&nbsp;that project interpersonal communication skills have a significance effect on project success of construction companies in Borama, District<em>. </em>This study found that project team diversity has not significant influence on project success of the construction companies, Borama District, the study concludes that interpersonal communication has a significant influence on project success of local construction companies in Borama district. The overall recommendation of this study should be aware of diversity information managements, interpersonal communications kills and team diversity to respond the risk suddenly. And also recommends owner of board of directors of Local construction companies be provided with updated knowledge and communication and the process to implement projects successful. Project interpersonal communication has a positive effect on project success and the study recommends the practice and efforts to improve of communication is very important for the projects of Local construction companies finally the study recommends that more studies be done on another elements of communication skills. Thu, 18 Jan 2024 00:00:00 +0000 Unpacking Project Implementation: The Effective Role of Monitoring and Evaluation Systems in Local Non-Governmental Organization in Somaliland <p>Monitoring and evaluation have gained prominence as a key tool for program success. Thus, NGOs have strived to integrate Monitoring and Evaluation system to promote program performance. This is evident with the ever-increasing demands for M&amp;E experts and request for expression of interest for M&amp;E consultants in the local dailies. However, in developing countries, NGOs are faced with several challenges in addition to inability to resourcefully respond to changing needs. Especially in Somaliland, the implementation of M&amp;E in non-governmental organizations is still limited. The ineffectiveness of their work has also been observed owing to the inability by NGOs to demonstrate and achieve project results, despite the huge resources at their disposal. It is against this backdrop that this study determined the factors affecting the implementation of monitoring and evaluation systems in local NGOs in Borama city, Somaliland. The study was guided by the following objectives: to establish the effect of budgetary allocation, stakeholder participation and level of training on the implementation of monitoring and evaluation systems in local non-governmental organization projects in Borama city, Somaliland. The study adopted cross sectional survey on 10 local NGOs with a total of 60 respondents. The data was collected using a questionnaire. The data collected was analyzed by descriptive statistics and inferential statistics through multiple linear regression. The study found that budgetary allocation had no significant effect on the implementation of M&amp;E with β = 1.339 and p-value = 0.538. The study also found that stakeholder participation had a significant effect on the implementation of M&amp;E with β = 8.680 and p-value = 0.000. The study further revealed that level of training had a significant effect on the implementation of M&amp;E in the Local NGOs with β = 7.919 and p-value = 0.001. The study concluded that the budgetary allocation, stakeholder participation and level of training under the study significantly affected the implementation of M&amp;E systems. The study recommends that the local NGOs needs to implement effective M&amp;E systems as they enhance the performance and sustainability of established projects.</p> Jibril S. Sat, 27 Jan 2024 00:00:00 +0000 Community Relations Strategy and Corporate Image: An Analysis of Oil Producing Firms in Rivers State, Nigeria <p>From history, the relationship between oil producing firms and their host communities in Rivers State has been frosty, with some oil companies coming out of certain crisis with bad images. What we intend to achieve with this study is determining if whatever negative image of oil producing firms can be reverse to good one through community relations strategy and whether certain community relations strategy can build good corporate image. Using the Yamane formula, we estimated a sample of 399, only using responses of 387 after screening of the questionnaires. We distributed the questionnaire after validity and reliability were confirmed. The estimation of the responses got were performed using descriptive tools of frequencies and percentages. Also, the hypothesized relationship was tested using Pearson correlation method. Our result emphasized the importance of community relations strategy in building good image for oil producing firms. Community relations strategy, manifesting in compromising and collaborating strategies ensure the oil producing firms are perceived by the community and employees in a good light. Relaxing the use of forcing strategy also achieved this feat. To be perceived positively, we suggest that oil producing firms should engage with the community through town hall meetings, which should be done regularly, to discuss the interest of every stakeholder and collaborate in ensuring that resolution and programmes are implemented to the letter.</p> Beatrice Hogan Ekpo, Emeka J. Mon, 29 Jan 2024 00:00:00 +0000 Forensic Accounting and Economic Development in Nigeria <p>The need to upend the abysmal level of economic development in Nigeria and reverse the ugly indices of economic development has been of great interest to the government of Nigeria. In the descriptive nature of our study, we explored the role of forensic accounting in promoting economic development in Nigeria. The population of our research includes accountants and senior staff of Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs). A sample size of 360 was estimated using the Yamane formula, but 349 copies of questionnaire were usable. In this study, we used frequencies and percentages in our descriptive analysis and our proposed hypotheses were tested using the Pearson correlation method. From our analysis, we observed forensic accounting as an important factor in promoting economic development. Forensic accounting in the three dimensions used facilitate employment generation and standard of living, while there is reduction in poverty on account of adopting forensic accounting. These impressive discoveries led us to recommend that, government should regulate the activities of the forensic accounting profession to ensure members conduct themselves properly, enhance competency and standard and ensure members of the public are protected from being misled.</p> Babajide Oloyode Akinyemi, Emeka J. As a cross-sectional analysis, the examined the effect of strategic planning, as manifested in environmental scanning, strategy formulation, strategy implementation and evaluation and control on the indexes of performance (which market share and innovations were used as indexes). We focused on manufacturing firms in Port Harcourt, as stratified random and convenience sampling methods were used to sample 374 employees. Questionnaire structured in two parts and design to reflect Likert 5-point scale was used in gathering information. We assessed this relationship using descriptive and inferential methods, as the Pearson correlation method was used to test the hypothesized relationships. As suggested by the result, strategic planning, manifested by the dimensions used, enhance organization performance. Given this reality, management of the manufacturing firms should adopt strategic planning to enhance performance. By gathering information through environmental analysis, manufacturing firms can be able to determine the direction to take and understand the business opportunities and understand their internal competencies.</p> Winifred Chinyere Madume , Emeka J.
