Abstract

The mining and related industries have a valuable and positive role in sustainable development's economic and social components by creating employment and wealth. It is facing criticism for its role in the third component of sustainable development. Also, due to the growing need for the world community for minerals, the mining industry faces various challenges, including the restoration of minerals and metals, environmental protection, and social responsibility. In developing countries, especially Iran, with rich mineral resources, if not considering sustainable development in the mining industry, not only does not cause progress but also causes social and economic losses. This study handles the concept and importance of sustainable development in mining and mineral resources. First, the challenges of this industry to achieve development based on sustainable development and continuing the existing situation of the country's mining industry along with sustainable development. In conclusion, the mining industry in Iran to continue its role requires the design of proper management tools in the environment's context, the use of clean-slate technology, and labor training.
