The Potential Impacts of Artificial Intelligence on the Happiness of Human Beings

The idea has been advanced by many people that the expansion of artificial intelligence (AI) in today’s world is likely to allow everyone to lead more productive lives; and it has been asserted that it can even extend our lives.  The question remains, however: to what extent does AI impact the happiness of people? It is this question that forms the basis of the present paper.  As just mentioned, one of the major points of the usefulness of artificial intelligence is to increase our productivity, but unfortunately this takes place sometimes at the cost of the unemployment of many people. Several answers have been put forward for solutions to this dilemma: one is to prepare students for the future via a variety of skills, such as the ability to think critically, and the ability to solve problems and to communicate clearly. It has also been suggested that technological skills themselves should be encouraged, as well as self-employment and entrepreneurship.  However, the future of AI in terms of decision-making begs the question: should it be in the hands of the “machines” themselves, which in many instances are more clever than humans, or should the power be held by people? This paper addresses this issue.
